nFluids profiled by Globe & Mail among sustainable tech companies innovating in the oil patch
September 3, 2015
Yaletown’s investment strategy focuses on two sectors sustainability innovation and intelligent enterprise technology. Sustainability innovation includes alternative energy technologies aimed at reducing waste, costs and inefficiencies in the energy sector. The Globe & Mail recently profiled technologies that hold promise for the oil patch, among them our portfolio company nFluids Inc.
Given the recent drop in oil prices, tech companies that are able to show cost-saving impact for oil producers are the ones most likely to get funding and attract clients. nFluids is taking aim at reducing operation costs with a drilling fluid additive that incorporates nanoparticles to reduce drilling fluid loss.
nFluids’ product aims to reduce fluid loss by 30 per cent, as well as “reducing friction and providing increased strength to the well bore,” Jeremy Krol, vice president corporate development says. The result: Operators should be able to trim total energy requirements and the cost of the drilling process.
