Yaletown Venture Partners ranked as #1 Most Active VC in Canada in independent review of 2013 Canadian Private Equity market

Yaletown Venture Partners was identified as the most active VC in Canada in 2013, by Thomson Reuters in an independent review of Canadian private equity market conducted for the CVCA (Canada’s Venture Capital & Private Equity Association).
Yaletown Venture Partners climbed from fourth position in 2012 to the top spot in 2013 asbCanada’s most active investor in innovative technology companies. The annual review compares 10 of Canada’s largest VCs including Real Ventures, iNovia Ventures and Relay Ventures. “Yaletown is thrilled to be recognized for our contribution to supporting Canada’s innovation and we’re keeping pace as the most active VC in Q1 2014 as well,” commented Hans Knapp, Partner and General Counsel, Yaletown Venture Partners. “Yaletown’s active strategy of investing in technology companies with early revenues at an emerging growth stage in their business is filling a gap in the Canadian VC market and realizing positive returns for our investors.”
Other highlights of the Canada’s Venture Capital Market in 2013 report:
● 2013 was very active year of investment in Canadian VC market
● Investments by VC funds totaled $2.0 billion for the year, the highest level since the
peak of the previous cycle in 2007
● Private sector venture capital funding is still materially below the level required for a
sustainable ecosystem
● The competitive gap narrowed between Canada and the US in terms of deal size with
Canadian companies garnering 54% of dollars going to US counterparts, compared to
46% in 2012.
