Yaletown portfolio company Foodee acquires US competitor Chewse

 July 14, 2020

Yaletown Partners is pleased to report that our portfolio company Foodee has acquired Chewse, a leading family-style office catering company servicing the San Francisco Bay Area, Austin and Chicago. This is the first acquisition for Vancouver-based Foodee, a leading meal and catering platform focused on serving corporate clients.

Leveraging its meal planning technology, Foodee connects offices in 15 cities across North America with top local restaurants to create daily and weekly meal plans within each client’s budget, timeline, allergy and cuisine preferences.

Foodee provides off-peak hour demand for its restaurant partners. At the same time, ordering from Foodee encourages the sort of professional development that occurs during lunchtime meetings at the office.

Since 2013, Foodee has served close to 1,000,000 individual meals at a wide range of businesses, ranging from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies such as Apple, Amazon, Comcast, eBay, Facebook, Microsoft and Starbucks.

Foodee sits at the nexus of the new state of work in a post-COVID environment. Foodee has long provided individually packaged meals that meet workplace health and safety guidelines. Indeed, as the economy re-opens, the company’s model is well-suited to a social distancing environment. In addition, by having lunches delivered, employees have less need to leave the office at lunchtime, thus reducing elevator traffic, which increases employee safety.

As an investor in transformational changes to the way we build, work and live, we focus on opportunities where we can advance climate resilient growth. Yaletown is particularly proud that Foodee uses biodegradable packaging, low emission delivery methods and has partnered with in-office composting programs to lower its carbon “foodprint”.

During a time when society is rethinking the future of work, Yaletown is excited to accompany Foodee as it pursues its growth, while safely feeding healthy, locally sourced meals to office workers across North America in an environmentally conscious manner.
