Canadian venture deal making soars, fundraising sags in 2014

By all accounts, deal making in Canada’s venture capital market was red hot in 2014.
Earlier this month, the Canadian Venture Capital & Private Equity Association (CVCA) issued a report that said 379 financing rounds were closed by Canadian companies last year, raising $1.9 billion.
This week, a new report published by Thomson Reuters pointed to even higher levels of domestic activity. It found 522 venture deals captured nearly $2.4 billion in investments last year.
The Canadian venture activity in 2014 not only reflected an increase of 21 percent over 2013, it was the biggest total in more than a decade, according to the Thomson Reuters’ data.
