Sophie is Principal and Head of Responsible Investing at Yaletown, bringing more than 15 years’ experience as an investment professional, corporate and technology lawyer, and trusted advisor to tech companies. Based in Montréal, her time is spent supporting entrepreneurs who are creating a digitally-enabled climate-resilient future. Sophie is responsible for overseeing the firm’s sustainability platform, including the integration of environmental, social and corporate governance factors (ESG) into all aspects of Yaletown’s investment strategy, portfolio management, and firm operations.
A passionate advocate for women’s rights, Sophie is the co-founder of the Equality Fund, a ground-breaking model that leverages public and private sources of capital to support the advancement of gender equity globally by combining international development with gender-lens investing. Leveraging a contribution of $300M from the Government of Canada, the Equality Fund will mobilize over $1B to women’s movements and organizations, making it the largest self-sustaining fund for gender equality in the world. Sophie also co-chairs the Diversity & Inclusion Committee of the Canadian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (CVCA).
Prior to joining Yaletown, Sophie co-led Somel Investments, managing its investments, overseeing its operations and providing strategic business and legal expertise to its portfolio companies. She began her career as a lawyer at McCarthy Tétrault LLP, specializing in M&A, private equity and IP law.
Sophie holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from the University of Ottawa and a Bachelor of Laws from Université Laval. She is also a recent graduate of the Innovation Governance Program presented by the Canadian Council of Innovators.
